Pay It Forward Examples

Our hope is that patients who receive help will some day, some how - financially or otherwise - find a way to Pay It Forward by helping someone else in need. Some of the acts of of kindness have been simple and tangible like offering rides, preparing meals, making calls or sending cards to show their support.  Although we don't expect our financial assistance to be paid back, both patients and others in the community have found creative ways to "pay it forward"  to us.  Here are some examples.

Preschoolers Rally Together

In memory of Patty Popowitz who courageously lost her battle with breast cancer in 2010, her daughter and the Primrose School of West Plymouth united together during the month of October to raise $1,280 which the presented to Pay It Forward.  In celebration of this day, the students wore pink, pink donuts were enjoyed by both the students and parents, and the children did Pink Art Projects and presented their mothers with a special pink card.  Patty and her family have been loyal supporters of Pay It Forward and we were honored to receive this donation in her name.

In addition to donating a one night stay for our 2012 Casino Night, the manager donated all of the coins from their wishing well as seen in the eight pillow cases for a total of $836.16.  We feel it is wonderful karma for our organization, and it confirms every penny counts.

From shirts to quilts

One of our patient recipients is so passionate about Pay It Forward, she has hosted two very different fundraising endeavors.  The first year, she created and sold "Cancer Sucks" t-shirts.  This last year, she sold raffle tickets for a beautiful quilt.  Both efforts have raised hundreds of dollars which will be used to help patients in need.

Breast Wine Stoppers

One of our recent patient recipients has a husband who is a wood caver and has pledged to donate 100% of his breast cancer product to Pay It Forward, as well as auction items for our casino night.  One of his popular carvings are wine stoppers made to look like breasts.  We are anxiously waiting for a picture.

For the love of knitting

Jeanne Sumnicht knits to relax.  A retired teacher, she taught her 3rd & 4th grade students how to knit and they used their creations for various fundraisers.  A breast cancer survivor herself, she recently donated some of her proceeds to Pay It Forward.  Jeanne was featured in Kare 11's Land of 10,000 Stories.  Click here to view her story.
