The Pay It Forward Fund for Women’s Cancer was established by a breast cancer survivor to help women struggling financially while undergoing breast, ovarian, cervical and uterine cancer treatment. The fund assists patients receiving treatment at the Humphrey Cancer Center locations including North Memorial, Unity & Mercy Hospitals.
Ever since the first donation was used to turn a patient’s water back on, the founder has been very passionate about the cause.
A separate Pay It Forward Fund was started in Red Wing, Minnesota by two friends who lost their mothers to breast cancer. Both funds pay basic living expenses such as rent, mortgages, heat, electricity and water – up to $1,000 per patient.
We understand that it’s not easy for women to ask for help, or even accept help when it’s offered. However, we believe that if the patient knows that some day they will “pay it forward” by helping other women during treatment, that it enables them to accept the help that they need. There are many ways the patient can “pay it forward”. Besides a financial donation, it may come in the form of a ride, a meal, childcare or even a card or phone call showing support.
Our goal is to help as many women as possible get through a temporary financial crisis. The fund is designed to buy the patient time, and give them hope knowing that people care and understand what they are going through.
